The name of the tavern and pizzeria 2. Peron (The 2nd platform) in the town of Cerovlje, in the heart of Istria, reminds a nearby railway where trains no longer pass. It is located near the Istrian Y, the main highway, seven kilometers from Pazin. The tavern with a beautifully decorated covered terrace captivates at a first glance with its mixed modern and retro style, the wooden tables and the fireplace inside. The food is typical for an Istrian tavern – homemade sausages, prosciutto and cheese as appetizers, pasta, meat and pizza – but nicely presented on the plates. The menu is adapted to the seasons, so they offer the “season on the plate” with top local ingredients, porcini mushrooms, asparagus, truffles, homemade prosciutto, cheese, cottage cheese, olive oil. The wine list includes the leading Istrian wines, and the house wine is an excellent Malvazija. On the menu there are a loto of different types of pizzas baked in a wood fired pizza oven. We started the lunch with the Istrian sausage with truffles, some crispy bruschettas with gorgonzola, bacon and medica (you pronounce meditza, the Istrian honey grappa) and the rich Koza nostra pizza. We chose as well a delicious celery cream soup with truffles. For the main course, we tasted some fuži (kind of Istrian homemade pasta) with a venison stew and a tasteful rump steak tagliata from the grill. As dessert we enjoyed the very special semolina foam on a white chocolate bed with strawberry topping and finished with an excellent Italian coffee. When you drive through Istria 2. Peron is worth a stop.
