The tavern Alla Beccaccia (in Italian snipe) is situated In Valbandon, near Fažana, in the middle of a large park. On warm days, it is ideal to sit outdoors, on the porch, in the shade of greenery, while children can play on the lawn in front of the tavern. The rustically decorated interior is dominated by a fireplace, where they always grill some juicy pieces of meat. The ambience is warm and the service pleasant. The tavern’s specialties are meat (game) and pasta dishes. A couple of years ago they deliberatly decided not to have fish or seafood on the menu. Although their signature dish is the snipe on polenta, you have to order it the day before - during the hunting season - because they need 4 hours to prepare it! In all Istrian taverns, the meal begins with a platter of homemade cold cuts: prosciutto, sausages and pancetta (sort of bacon). We recommend that you stick to this tradition and enjoy their platter with top quality products. We were delighted by the homemade ravioli, the venison ones and the ones stuffed with mushrooms, in a thick cheese sauce. A powerful dish in which all different flavors are felt. If you like homemade potato gnocchi, alla Beccaccia they make the best ones we have tasted in Istria. You won’t go wrong with grilled meat: Black Angus Ribeye was great, juicy with finely roasted edges. The tavern has a good wine list, but unfortunately does not serve wine by the glass. There was no more room for dessert, so after a rich lunch we immediately switched to the espresso. Alla Beccaccia, one of the best Istrian taverns, deserves all the praise.
