L'avis de Gault&Millau
The Black pig restaurant is named after the famous Croatian indigenous breed, the Black Slavonian pig. The restaurant is located in Čepin, ten kilometers from Osijek, within the Terra Negra Country complex, next to the meat industry Dobro. The restaurant building is reminiscent of a large traditional Slavonian house dominated by an interestingly decorated counter. The complex also includes a large wedding hall, wine cellar and several accommodation units. A neatly mowed meadow and a grove are ideal for walking or children’s play. On the menu you will find mostly traditional meat dishes, some of the black pig. The dishes are prepared in an interesting and modern way, quite different from the traditional Slavonian-Baranja restaurants. This time we tasted the autumn menu. Following the recommendation of the friendly staff, we started our lunch with cold appetizers: prosciutto, coppa, bacon, salami and kulen of Black Slavonian pork with homemade bread. Eggplant and chickpea chutney tasted very good with the cold meat products. The right decision was to taste a warm appetizer, delicious escargots roasted with herb butter, big, soft and juicy. For the main course we enjoyed the Tomahawk steak served on fried onions and reduced Madeira sauce. The meat was spicy, soft and very tasty. The wine list offers mostly regional wines, but also a nice selection of Istrian and Dalmatian wines, dessert and sparkling wines, and some can be ordered by the glass. We were happy to discover that the restaurant has kept its recognisable quality.
