As this year, due to the lockdown, we couldn’t unfortunately visit the restaurant Giaxa, we publish the review and the score by Gault&Millau Croatia 2020.
The Giaxa restaurant is one of the gastronomic symbols of city of Hvar. Located in a restored 15th century Late Gothic palace, the restaurant reflects minimalism and elegancy, keeping the original stone columns and arcades. The atmosphere is cosy and the staff is rather friendly: they were more than happy to present us the menu and recommend some dishes and wines. Apart from some must-have traditional Dalmatian dishes like gregada, traditional fish stew from Hvar, Dalmatian brodet and grilled fish, they also offer some modern Mediterranean dishes, naturally, local. Upon the waiter’s recommendation we started off with morski pijat (sea platter) for two: marinated tuna, octopus and monkfish sushi. It was well presented and delicious. We also tried the tuna steak, absolutely exquisite and juicy, served with an unusual combination – avocado purée. We were pleasantly surprised! What also surprised us was the dessert: lemon-shaped cheesecake, refreshing and aromatic, easy on the eyes and not too sweet. Comparing with last year, we noticed higher prices. We definitely recommend you to book a table in advance!
