L'avis de Gault&Millau
For more than three decades, the Kapetanova kuća restaurant has been attracting lovers of oyster delicacies, seafood risottos, homemade pasta and traditional Ston desserts. It is located on the waterfront in the centre of Mali Ston, in the house where the captain of Ston lived during the Dubrovnik Republic, and in the background you can see the walls and fortress of Ston. Oysters grown in the Mali Ston Bay on the Pelješac peninsula dominate the menu, and you can taste them raw and served on ice with lemon, in cream soup, in breadcrumbs, fried or in tempura. We tasted the fresh ones, you will never go wrong with them, and it is worth trying tempura. We continued our lunch with a specialty of the Kapetanova kuća - risotto that bears the name of the restaurant, and is prepared with all the seafood and cuttlefish ink that gives it a very dark colour. Although the offer of fresh blue and white fish was impressive, we could not resist the lobster prepared with homemade wide noodles, in a fine tomato sauce, enriched with the flavours of local herbs. We ended the lunch with a traditional dessert : the famous Ston cake, recognizable by its “makaruli”, specially shaped dry pasta. The wine list contains mostly local wines, including those from nearby wineries that are worth visiting while in Mali Ston. This year Kapetanova kuća got its second Gault&Millau toque.
