Konoba Bako

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Konoba Bako, in Komiža on the island of Vis, has a beautiful terrace right by the sea. There is a pebble beach next to it, so if you are on a boat you can reach it by dinghy and leave it on the beach. From the terrace there is a view of the whole Komiža. It is especially nice in the evening when the lights of this beautiful fishing village light up. And the spacious interior is also very attractive. Decorated in a tavern style, in one corner there is a real small museum of historical objects that show how people used to live and fish in Komiža. For the appetizer, we ordered a platter with octopus salad, marinated and salted anchovies, fresh marinated shrimp and smoked tuna and swordfish carpaccio . And a delicious white Komiža focaccia, on which, unlike the one from Vis there are only salted sardines on the top and no tomatoes. The flavours of the sea, olive oil and a bit of fresh spring onions in the octopus salad intertwined finely. Then we ordered a fantastic lobster brodetto. If you love lobster, don’t miss it by no means. The thick fresh homemade tomato sauce, nicely spiced, with big pieces of mainly lobster tail are truly a feast for the palate. In Konoba Bako, they grill some excellent fish. Let the waiter tell you what’s fresh that day. The same with the wines. He will know how to pair them with your food. We rounded off the lunch with a simple ice cream. If you are in Komiža on holiday, or you are on a boat and you are staying only for one night, we warmly recommend a dinner at Konoba Bako, that this year received its second Gault & Millau toque.
