L'avis de Gault&Millau
The legendary tavern Tomaseo, at the beginning of the Šibenik waterfront, changed its appearance and its offer a few years ago. From a traditional Dalmatian tavern, it has been transformed into a small restaurant, open all year round, which offers a slightly more ambitious dishes than classic taverns. They also designed an interesting offer with a three-course menu that you can create yourself, choosing from 4 or 5 dishes offered from each category: appetizer, main course and dessert. We had a short lunch, while traveling through Šibenik, outside the summer season. We were greeted by friendly staff who presented the daily selection of dishes. We opted for simple tagliatelle with shrimp. The pasta was properly prepared, with an abundant quantity of shrimps, but it lacked that particular touch that makes the dish special. We liked more the grilled Adriatic squid with classic chard and boiled patatoes. The squid was nicely roasted, the flesh firm in texture but not at all tough, juicy and lightly seasoned with olive oil. The boiled chard was freshly cooked, as one could see from its beautiful green color. Well-prepared, the recognizable taste of Dalmatian food will always meet your expectations. So it was with Paradizot (ile flottante), a dessert from our childhood, which we can’t resist and always order it when at Tomaseo. The light clouds of whipped egg whites floating in a liquid cream of milk, egg yolks and vanilla always delight us. At Tomaseo take away is available. This is a restaurant that won’t let you down.
