L'avis de Gault&Millau
Restaurant La Grisa is part of a small family hotel in Bale, in southwestern Istria. We had lunch on the terrace which is on the back side, among nicely renovated houses with green shutters. Part of the terrace is covered so that you can eat outside even when it rains. Although simply decorated, the ambiance is pleasant, with white tablecloths and beige table runners, a stone slab floor and large pots with Mediterranean plants. The interior is also simple and relaxing. We were greeted by a very kind and professional waiter and we were immediately served fresh homemade bread and buns to taste with their excellent extra virgin olive oil. La Grisa proudly points out that most of the food, especially vegetables, is from their home-grown, organic farming. That’s why we chose a delicious cream soup of leeks and potatoes, with a small addition of fresh cream and a couple of pieces of fried bacon. Then we opted for a seabass fillet served on vegetables. In our case, it was an extraordinarily delicious boiled kale that tasted even better than the fish. Along with the meal we had a glass of good homemade Malvazija wine. We finished the lunch with truffle ice cream. Beautifully served, on an oblong white plate, three scoops of ice cream on olive oil emulsion were decorated with freshly grated black truffle shaves, mint leaves, and colorful flower petals. Nice for the eye, nice for the palate.
