This year Restaurant Laurus has expanded its offer, adding a rich selection of pizzas to its menu. They also changed their name in Bistro&Pizzeria Laurus, although food will remain similar to the one they had served so far. Located in the Hotel Villa Kapetanović, on the hills of Opatija, the restaurant has a truly amazing view on the bay of Kvarner. In summer it is worth to welcome the sunset on their terrace. The spacious hall, dominated by a large aquarium, is classically decorated, with elegant woodwork and white tablecloths. There are no more tasting menus in the new concept, but there is a good choice of attractive dishes. The changes were primarily due to epidemiological reasons and a different, mostly local clientèle. The bistro and the pizzeria are a more casual form of dining, adapted to new times. But at Laurus the quality remains the priority. They brought an Italian pizzaiolo, Giuseppe Perfido, to be sure that their guests get the real Italian pizza baked in a bread oven. During our visit we enjoyed an excellent sea bass carpaccio and a tuna tartare, made from extremely fresh raw fish. The same was with the big, delicious and perfectlly grilled Kvarner scampi (langoustines). We especially remember the fullness of the taste of the excellent homemade gnocchi with scampi tails and black truffles. In the new Laurus, they have reduced the wine list to about twenty labels, but they emphasize that you can drink top quality wines in the price range from 180 kn to 700 kn. A place to go.
