L'avis de Gault&Millau
Restaurant Mario is located in the old part of Rogoznica, on the waterfront, next to the sea. It has a beautiful view of the entire bay and the nautical marina Frapa. The interior is decorated in a classic, rustic style, and the spacious terrace can serve a large number of guests at the same time. The restaurant offers traditional Dalmatian dishes, with some small excursions into the world’s gastronomy. So you will get fresh tuna tartare with soy sauce and wasabi that gives it a Japanese touch, but with the tradicional and typical Dalmatian motar (Apiaceae herb) and arugula. This unexpected combination of lightly sweet soy, sour motar and strong wasabi pleasantly surprised us and we really liked this dish. Mixed mussels buzara style were tasty, only the mussels weren’t full, as they can be, probably because it wasn’t the right season to catch them. We noticed the same in a big portion of green tagliatelle frutti di mare, in which the mussels were mediocre unlike other seafood which was fresh and good and went well with the homemade tomato sauce. We continued our lunch with squid, and instead of chard with boiled potatoes, we ordered grilled vegetables. Fine in taste, the Adriatic squid is very delicate and loses its softness if grlled even a little too long. This happened in our case, although the squid remained juicy and with a fine grill smell. The choice of vegetables could have been larger. We only got zucchini and peppers. The wine list is correct, you can get wines by the glass, and the waiters are very professional.
