L'avis de Gault&Millau

In this legendary restaurant located at the foot of Zagrebačka gora, known as Medvednica mountain, you will truly feel the spirit of old times. The interior, as the huge yard filled with wooden gazebos, is decorated in a mixture of urban and rustic style. The most impressive is the oldest dining hall designed in the traditional style of Šestine, the suburbs of Zagreb, once separated from the city. The murmur of the cold stream water in summertime, or the fireplace in wintertime will cheer you up while enjoying the national specialities. During the week, the restaurant is popular among business people, while during the weekend families and big groups like to visit it. Thanks to its size, it is ideal for various celebrations. The menu has been pretty much the same for years: rich and varied, covering all regions of Croatia. When we are in Okrugljak, we always order the Štrukli from Zagorje, a traditional dish typical of Northern Croatia made of soft pastry filled with cottage cheese and baked with cream on the top. At Okrugljak their quality has been the same for years. We also tasted an almost forgotten dish, a Horseradish Soup, full of flavours. A day earlier we ordered a roasted veal in the Bread Oven. It was soft and juicy, served with gratinated potatoes. The desserts are traditional and plentiful. We finished the lunch with an apple strudel, with the taste of cinnamon. The wine list includes a selection of wines from all Croatian regions, mostly from the continental part.
