L'avis de Gault&Millau

If you are visiting Esatern Istria don’t miss the restaurant of the boutique hotel Peteani, very close to Labin’s old town. If you come during the right season, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of the wisteria that adorns the facade of the elegant building with a beautiful interior design. You will be warmly welcomed by the Peteani family, who has more than twenty years of catering experience. The helm is now taken over by the son and the daughter-in-law. They still offer the best ingredients from local family farms, fresh Adriatic fish and Istrian meat delicacies, but they have introduced modern and innovative cooking. Tuna, scampis from the bay of Kvarner, shrimps and other crabs and shellfish are always on the menu. We started with their special shrimp cream soup, a delicious bisque with intense flavours and the excellent home made ravioli filled with scampi’s tails. We loved the sea-bass fillet with spring vegetables in Malvazija sauce. Seasonally, they offer asparagus, bear onions, mushrooms and truffles. Honey is also an ingredient that they use very often in their dishes because there is a strong honey production in Labin’s region. You must try the special dessert, Labin’s krafi (kind of donuts) in a coulis of dry figues and Moscato wine or stuffed with cottage cheese and raisins in caramel sauce Chocolate lovers will enjoy a classic soufflé with anise ice cream. The wine list is rich, as is the list of spirits and soft drinks. Denis Peteani takes care of that. If you do not want to continue your journey after this fine meal, you can relax in one of the beautiful and comfortable rooms of the hotel. This year restaurant Peteani got a well deserverd third Gault&Millau toque.
