Rio snack bar is still our favourite restaurant on Rovinj waterfront. The modern design and the airy interior of the small bistro with glass walls give the feeling that you are always on fresh air, while the outdoor tables, right next to the sea, offer a gorgeous view on the multitude of colorful boats in the port of Rovinj. From the very beginning, Rio has maintained a very good quality of food and their dishes are always tempting and above all delicious. They will bring you immediately the excellent extra virigin olive oil Mate and some homemade fresh bread The most attractive appetizers are fresh fish, scampi and seafood. Seabass, cuttlefish and squid carpaccio are fabulous, as well as tuna tartare and we definitely recommend to try all of them no matter what kind of fish it is. If you cannot decide, listen to the advice of their two nice waiters, Gigi and Ciombe. They are the kindest waiters/hosts in all of Istria and will honestly tell you if the fish is fresh or frozen and what to order. The pastas are equally good. We recommend the homemade pljukanci dell’Adriatiaco with canestrelli (sort of sea shells), shrimps and other seafood. The pasta is always al dente, and the sauce is a real concentrate of seafood flavors. We couldn’t resist their fritto misto. Crunchy, fried cuttlefish, shrimps and mussels will delight you over and over again. We ordered some Saint Jacques scallops on the grill. Full, juicy and lightly grilled with olive oil – they were just delicious. So were the perfectly roasted lamb chops. With its small but excellent menu, a good wine list and fair prices, Rio got this year the second Gault&Millau toque. To be sure to get a table in this unmissable place in Rovinj you should make a reservation in advance, especially on weekends and during the season.
