L'avis de Gault&Millau
Saints Hills Winery and Restaurant is located in the village Oskorušno on the Pelješac peninsula, so it is advisable to plan your arrival and book a place to taste wine and food in advance. The imposing stone building in which wine was made a hundred years ago, thanks to its new owners, the Tolj family, has been given a new life. The Saints Hills vineyards bear the names of the saints after whom the four children of the owner were named. St. Rocco and St. Lucia - the vineyards of Plavac Mali - are located on Pelješac, while the St. Anthony vineyard, as well as the St. Lorena olive grove, from whose fruits they produce extra virgin olive oil, are located in Istria. Saints Hills offers three types of wine tasting: Bubbly & White Trio, Red Temptation and El Classico (a combination of white and red wines), and during the tasting the friendly staff instructed us in detail in the story of each wine. Whichever tasting you choose, you won’t go wrong. We especially liked the aromatic dingač St. Lucia in chocolate color, and we also point out the light white wine Frenchie, a combination of sauvignon and sémillon, created as a tribute to oenologist Michel Rolland, a wine advisor at Saints Hills. Along with the wine, we tasted one of the three versions of tapas on the menu - The Dance Party, which consisted of pancetta, prosciutto, 3 types of Pag cheese, olives, tomatoes and almonds. The flavours of top-quality cheeses and prosciutto paired very well with the wine aromas, but we hope that the tapas offer will also include some with the chef’s signature. The restaurant menu offers 3 or 5 course tasting menus. The tuna tartare with wasabi, cuttlefish brodetto with polenta and risotto with prawns were tasteful, and the cheesecake and lava cake nicely rounded off the gastronomic experience. For younger ones, there is also a children’s menu consisting of homemade pasta with tomatoes from the winery’s garden, mini burgers with french fries and lava cake. In the winery and restaurant Saints Hills, we were especially impressed by the serene atmosphere that provides a complete rest for the soul and palate.
