Seosko domaćinstvo Ficović
L'avis de Gault&Millau
In the Pelješac village of Hodilje in the Mali Ston Bay, two kilometres away from Ston, the inhabitants are traditionally engaged in oyster and mussel farming and fishing. Right by the sea, with access to a small, beautifully landscaped beach where you can swim while waiting for food, there is a family restaurant of the rural household Ficović. The relaxed atmosphere, spacious covered terrace and simple but thoughtful menu composed exclusively of the highest quality and freshest local ingredients are a reflection of the philosophy of life of this area and the family whose members prepare and serve food. Guests gladly accept the staff’s recommendations, so we ordered salty, pickled anchovies and a delicious octopus salad for a cold appetiser, also grilled scampi in a fine tomato sauce for a warm appetizer. The crown of the lunch was gilthead sea bream baked in the oven, with Mediterranean herbs, wine and garlic, served with a traditional side dish of chard and potatoes. All dishes are prepared according to the principle of respecting top quality ingredients - without unnecessary additives. We sweetened the lunch with Ston “makaruli” - a cake made of pasta, walnuts, almonds and cinnamon. The wine list is not extensive, but it contains the best wines from the Pelješac vineyards. Be sure to take a little more time for this piece of paradise and indulge in a hedonistic atmosphere. Your palate, body and mind will remember it for a long time.
