L'avis de Gault&Millau
Taverna Riva has one of the most beautiful views in Bol, on the island of Brač. The spacious terrace on the higher level offers a view of the waterfront, moored boats, the sea and the island of Hvar. So it is not surprising that in the summer months, from seven in the evening until it closes, Taverna Riva is constantly full and that the guests are waiting in front of the entrance to get a table. On the ground floor of the restaurant there is a coffee bar with tables on the waterfront. It is most loved by the sailors who in the morning, just a few meters from their boat, can drink an excellent cappuccino with a fresh croissant. During the day you can order pizzas, burgers and various salads. In addition to the classic fish and meat dishes, the restaurant offers a vegetarian and gluten-free menu, which is especially appreciated by foreign tourists. Tavern Riva has a rich wine list and the staff is friendly and professional. This time again we ordered cold fish appetizers and enjoyed tuna and sea bass carpaccio, spiced with a fine emulsion of olive oil and citrus. We also tasted the excellent fish soup, with an intense sea flavour and large chunks of white fish. The Pašticada (a meat stew) with homemade gnocchi, a traditional Dalmatian dish, was excellent. Slow-cooked, tender salty-sweet-sour sliced beef, previously marinated in vinegar and wine, in a dark thick sauce in which all the aromas of spices were felt - from cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon to prunes - delighted us. At the end of the dinner, we had an almond semifreddo decorated with a piece of croquant. Prices are in accordance with the offer and the location. Tavern Riva is still the best restaurant in Bol.
