L'avis de Gault&Millau
The small Konoba Valle Losca is located at the entrance to Volosko. A favorite among locals, the tavern is known as a place that celebrates simplicity and fresh local ingredients. The service is very kind and friendly. Be prepared to wait for your table. The interior of the tavern is small, with stone walls, dim lighting, slightly clogged with paintings on the walls and bottles of brandy on the bar. The pride of this tavern is the terrace overlooking one of the most beautiful streets in Kvarner. Daily and seasonal dishes and a nice menu of traditional dishes, so be sure to check what is on the board that day. The wine list is small but the offer adequately accompanies all the dishes. Two appetizers, tuna carpaccio and cuttlefish salad with nectarines, were excellent, due to the freshness of the food and a great knowledge of preparation techniques. But also due to the refreshing elements such as grated horseradish with tuna, or a refreshing combination of juicy nectarines and a cuttlefish soft as butter. Although he cooks in Kvarner, which celebrates the sea, chef Hari Benić is a master of meat, his beef carpaccio is one of the best we tried. The thicker sliced marinated beefsteak is soft and expertly spiced, with no unnecessary elements on the plate, along with a piece of creamy Mozzarella and a toasted piece of homemade bread. The fresh pasta is made by them. The combination of soft, elastic fuži (a local short pasta) with small but incredibly tasty canestrelli shellfish and freshly grated white truffle is one worth trying. If you come in the season of skuta the young local cottage cheese, don’t miss the desserts. Cinnamon spiced skuta, on boiled figs, has no flaws. Not too sweet, creamy and light, this dessert celebrates only two foods. It perfectly represents the triumph of simplicity that reigns in Valle Losca. Excellent ratio value for money. Don’t miss it and be sure to book in advance.
