L'avis de Gault&Millau
Almost every restaurant and klet (traditional old houses in Zagorje) are located in gorgeous places, and Vuglec Breg is definitely one of them. Situated on a small hill covered by vineyards, the restaurant offers both soothing and thrilling view, no matter the season. Apart from the restaurant, the Vuglec Breg (breg meaning hill) has a few charming wooden houses where you can spend the night. Perfect place for Sunday lunches, family celebrations, romantic dinners and business lunches. The menu is based on specialities from Hrvatsko Zagorje, with few variations. For appetiser, we had Zagorski pladanj, a platter containing local charcuteries, sausages, speck and delicious selection of local cheeses, and for the main dish we had veal made in bread oven and mlinci, a thin dried flatbread soaked in the drippings from meat. The meat was juicy, delicious and well-seasoned, but mlinci were a bit too dry and not hot enough. However, the dishes prepared in the bread oven must be ordered in advance. Our recommendation for dessert is either home made strudels or crêpes with walnuts. The quality-price ratio is not that adequate, seeing that the prices are high and the servings are not so abundant. The beverage offer is a standard one, and in addition to food, Vuglec Breg has its own wine label and offers tastings of three to five wines, served with home-made bread and cheese. It is definitely worth a visit, and we will most certainly be back expecting maybe a more courteous staff.
