Johnson is one of the famous fish restaurants in Kvarner, which has had a regular clientèle for years. This classic restaurant, located on the first floor of a house, on a hill in Mošćenička draga, has an inner space and a nice terrace where it is pleasant to eat in the summer season. Johnson is mainly known for fresh fish and Kvarner scampi, and the cuisine is mostly traditional, simple. After a glass of refreshing Rosé sparkling wine from Tomac winery, we started with lightly marinated fillets of fresh anchovies and raw scampi (langoustines). The anchovies were juicy and tasty, and the raw scampi tails in an emulsion of oil and lemon were excellent. Then we ordered Saint Jacques scallops and grilled scampi. The Saint Jacques were rather big and delicious. We were expecting as well some big scampi from Kvarner bay, but to our great regret, this time they were medium size, so we were a little disappointed. Still, they were finely grilled, with firm flesh and a fine sweet taste. We liked the white risotto with peeled scampi tails. Cooked al dente, mantecato (finished with cold butter, according to the rules of Italian cuisine), the risotto had a mild fishy taste, and the scampi tails added some sweetness. We just put on it a few drops of the excellent extra virgin olive oil Terre bianche, produced by the famous Istrian winemaker Clai and a little fresh pepper and enjoyed the meal. We accompanied our lunch with a fresh Malvasia from Kabola winery. At the end we finished with a classic hazelnut semifreddo served with a wild berries sauce, that looked more like a dense jam.
