Surrounded by nature, right next to the emerald-green Mrežnica, in a location known as the “living room by the river,” you’ll find Mrežnička kuća. It’s an ideal spot if you want to escape the city for a few hours: about a 30-minute drive from Karlovac and a little over an hour from Zagreb. A narrow road leads to the restaurant, descending steeply from the main road and even crossing railway tracks; if you’re not fond of such adventurous driving, it’s best to park by the main road and walk down. The setting is truly special, as if you’ve arrived on a green planet: a wooden house by a small lake and its spacious terrace overlooking a meadow and the river make this place perfect for relaxation. The menu is modern and globally oriented: burgers, gyoza, fish & chips, tacos, ribs, wok dishes, tuna poke, bao buns, spring rolls, kung pao – more in the spirit of street food than local tradition. The beef burger is very tasty, served with French fries and coleslaw, though the Angus beef skewer could use some improvement. The restaurant is known for its delicious cocktails, with more than twenty on offer. Still, the restaurant’s greatest asset is its location in breathtaking natural surroundings. The staff is friendly, prices are afordable and weekend reservations are recommended.
