Gault&Millau's review 2026

Located in the endlessly charming Kvarner town of Volosko, with a view of the small fishing harbor (mandrać), this trattoria takes its name from its picturesque surroundings. Inspired by the Italian concept of simple local cuisine, the menu offers a unique twist on traditional dishes, setting it apart from similar establishments. Playful details - such as a menu written in the local dialect and poetic verses about the trattoria printed on table placemats - reflect its dedication to the local community. The relaxed atmosphere appeals to both locals and visitors, making it an ideal stop after a walk along Lungomare, the famous Opatija Riviera promenade. A particularly satisfying choice after such a stroll is the mildly spicy cuttlefish stew with chickpeas and baked homemade focaccia, or house-made spaghetti with clams in a delicate white sauce. While the menu focuses on seafood, meat lovers will also find enticing options, such as veal ribs with baked potatoes, red cabbage, apple, and caraway. The wine list features house-bottled wines alongside a selection of renowned Croatian labels.
