Nothing has changed in this legendary Istrian restaurant, known for the fresh raw fish that they have been offering for years to their enthusiastic customers under the motto “from sea to table”. Located in an alley of the old part of Novigrad, not far from the sea, the small family restaurant Damir & Ornella was one of the first in Istria to start offering raw fish, and its owner Damir became famous for his expert fish filleting in front of the guests. You won’t go wrong if you opt for a daily catch. You will eat a fish that only a few hours earlier was still swimming in the sea. Sea bass, sea bream, raw scampi, squid, Saint Jacques scallops. You will get a carpaccio from all these, but also many other fish, mussels and seafood. Many people call it the Mediterranean sashimi because the raw fish is dressed only with excellent extra virgin olive oil and a few drops of lemon. Along with Damir, the restaurant is run by his wife Ornella and daughter Mattea who are in the kitchen. While the mother prepares most of the cooked dishes, the daughter is an excellent pastry chef. After an abundance of raw fish, choose like we did a homemade pasta with seafood or risotto of the day. You will enjoy every bite. Same as for grilled fish. For dessert, order a delicious millefoglie. Damir& rnella offer an excellent wine list. An unavoidable address for lovers of raw fish, Damir & Ornella is a restaurant you will always come back to, but don’t forget to book a table.
