L'avis de Gault&Millau
The downtown restaurant a few minutes’ walk from the main town square, in Hebrangova Street, Gallo is housed in an elegantly decorated basement. The space is divided in a few small rooms that look like private dining rooms and gives a sense of privacy to the guests. Plates with fresh fish, a rich variety of noodles and fresh and raw vegetables attract the attention as soon as you enter the restaurant. Many celebrities who enjoyed the restaurant, from statesmen to Hollywood stars, noted down their thoughts in the book of impressions, placed on the piano by the entrance. The staff will kindly and professionally present the menu. We suggest to listen to their recommendation on available fresh meat and fish. The menu is long-lasting as the staff: the chef has been here for 15 years and the pastry chef for 20 years. Except for the daily fresh fish and meat, the specialty at Gallo is a homemade pasta, prepared with a variety of seafood or vegetables, and risottos. We tasted the delicious pennette with seafood: mussels, shrimps and vongole in tomato sauce with fresh basil. The seafood risotto, rich in flavours of scampi and vongole, was a little too plentiful. Then we ordered some big, grilled scampi, juicy, tender and sweet, with a rucola salad with potatoes, which, in fact was superflous. Instead of a sweet dessert we ended our lunch with a cheese plate. The wine list offers a wide selection of wines from all domestic regions, and foreign labels are represented as well. The young waiter should be a little more informed about the wine list. During the warm days it is particularly comfortable to sit on the elegant and quiet garden terrace, under the parasols, hidden from from the street. The terrace is heated in colder days. Gallo got this year its second Gault&Millau toque.
