L'avis de Gault&Millau
Just a few meters from the Drava River and the famous Osijek promenade, right next to the art nouveau building of the Urania Cinema, is the Lumière Restaurant, which maintains its reputation at an enviable level. Situated in the basement area, it has a beautifully designed terrace for warm days, which - although along the road - guarantees guests privacy. The service is professional and the menu, is well thought out and offers a solid selection of cold entrees and soups, carefully selected meat and fish dishes, interesting pasta, rich salads and a few delicious desserts. As appetiser, we ordered simple tomato soup, moderately flavoured and elegantly served. We tasted two main courses: a Vienna steak perfectly fried in breadcrumbs with lightly seasoned potato salad, and beefsteak with truffles and potatoes. The meat was medium rare, exactly the way we asked for, and the sauce was wonderfully balanced. The crispy potatoes were served separately, not to soak up the sauce. The wine list offers a nice selection of mostly regional wines, a few sparkling wines and champagnes and a solid selection of other drinks. We chose the rose Süber and the award-winning Black Pinot Noir from the Kalazić Winery, which can also be ordered by the glass. The desserts are always freshly prepared. We rounded off our lunch with a delicious, but too sweet chocolate soufflé with wild berries and ice cream. We gladly recommend Lumière for its food and cozy atmosphere, but also for its great location downtown.
