Gault&Millau's review 2026
Chef's Restaurant
Simple is always best – but also the hardest to achieve – and that is precisely the approach of this family-run restaurant housed in the Art Nouveau building of the Urania cinema. Everything is exactly as it should be: the Wiener schnitzel has not a single sinew, extends beyond the plate, and is prepared in the traditional Viennese way, yet with a subtle twist in flavours and presentation. The dining room is in the basement, but it is bright and warm, with modern lighting and comfortable chairs, while a small terrace overlooking the Drava promenade exudes French charm. Service is excellent, with waiters and waitresses skilfully weaving among closely set tables, and the menu is a fusion of Slavonian and Dalmatian flavours. The former is represented by sesame-crusted pike perch with potato salad, while the latter includes tuna carpaccio, seared scallops, octopus salad, or stuffed squid. For meat lovers, we recommend veal from the wood-fired oven, aged beefsteak with gorgonzola or truffle sauce, and black Slavonian pig fillet in a dark sauce with smoked croquettes. To finish, there is a warm chocolate soufflé in white chocolate cream. The wine list features Slavonian wines, and prices at Lumiere reflect the quality.
