Plavi podrum is located in the little harbour of the charming village of Volosko, a few kilometres from Opatija. This gastronomic oasis, whose owner is the famous and excellent Croatian sommelier Daniela Kramarić, has been attracting for decades the local and foreign gourmets. A beautiful terrace, few meters away from the sea, a good food and a huge and attractive wine list are a true invitation for every guest. The space is beautiful, elegant and clean, and the staff is professional and helpful. In addition to the already brought up wine list, we should also mention the large selection of award-winning olive oils. Our lunch began with a greeting from the kitchen, a Kvarner classic interpretated by the chef: an excellent breaded anchovy with raisins, confit tomatoes and mayonnaise made with the excellent Istrian olive oil Ipša on a pea cream. The first dish was a very interesting tuna prosciutto on a truffle cream. Fresh, vibrant and very tasty tuna and truffles made a great combination, although we wouldn’t mind if there were a few more truffles. This was followed by another classic: the black risotto. In addition to being very tasty, the risotto surprised us with the use of some ingredients such as cumin, which gave an interesting taste, and confit lemon and lime zest that refreshed the whole dish. We continued with the scampi à la Parisienne. They were crispy, sweet and with a firm flesh. It’s a pity that the side dish was some characterless rice. We also tasted the grilled squid, which they served with a great emulsion of fish stock and ginger, pickled onions and an excellent, black lentil. Dessert once again confirmed that in Plavi podrum they pay close attention to the sweets. An excellent bitter chocolate on a carob biscuit that has enhanced the taste of the chocolate. Ice cream and chocolate powder brought texture and sweetness, while raspberry jelly gave the necessary acidity. A very well rounded dessert. After a walk through the picturesque streets of Volosko, sit in the beautiful ambience of Plavi podrum and indulge in pleasures.
