Dragutin Majsak - Gault&Millau Best Maître d'Hôtel of the Year 2020
Dragutin Majsak, known as Drago, is the maître d'hôtel of the iconic Zagreb restaurant Vinodol. He has been working in Vinodol for 33 years and this is his second home. For regular restaurant guests, Vinodol would be unthinkable without Drago. He is always present, but almost invisible, as if he was sliding between tables. There is no guest who does not know Drago, as there is no guest that Drago does not know. Extremely polite, kind to everyone, he is a top professional who takes care of every little detail. This is also evident in his appearance: sleek, neatly ironed clothes that do not have a single wrinkle after a full working day. As he takes care of his guests, he takes care of his team, which he respects to the utmost. He would jump in if one of his waiters needed help, he would notice that the guest wanted something even when he had not even raised his hand. Drago Majsak began his catering adventure during his education at the Professional Catering School in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, where he acquired the basics of working in the hospitality industry. He is always convinced that only top-quality service can attract permanent guests. He is devoted to his job and his environment. He only has words of praise about his team, and since the cooks in the kitchen are "invisible", he is pleased to share with them the guest comments to motivate them to continue their work. What encourages him is the satisfied face of the guest, that gives him a new motivation. Drago Majsak is simply the perfect maître d'hôtel and it is our great pleasure to award him with the title of the best Gault&Millau maître d'hôtel of year 2020.
