Istrian winery Kabola Elegance, beauty and organic production as a trademark
Istria is widely known for its rich enogastronomy and intact nature, and the renowned Kabola Winery brings you this very combination
Today Kabola produces 11 different wine labels, many of which are listed on the wine maps of the best European restaurants crowned with Gault&Millau toques and Michelin stars, such as Bernard Loiseau in France, Taubenkobel in Austria, Sel Gris in Belgium and many others.
The organic way of cultivating and maintaining vineyards is what makes Kabola winery unique in Istria, which is why all the wines have the corresponding eco-certification. Kabola is the first certified Eco winery in Istria and the first to receive the EU Eco label, and Malvazija Kabola 2008 was the first white wine in Croatia to receive the Eco label.
The owner Marino Markežić proudly points out that organic wines, the production of which presupposes zero chemical use, allow for the experience of the true flavor of the variety and terroir. The winery's specialties are certainly red wines, but white wines kept in oak barrels also have their place, as well as the Amfora Malvazija, which is produced in clay amphorae in accordance with the ancient Greek and Roman winemaking philosophy.
Among the white wines, the one that stands out is the distinctive sparkling wine RE, which won Kabola a silver medal at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards in London in 2015. However, the Markežić family wines have been crowned with a number of other prestigious awards as well, including a gold medal for Unica 2010 in Ljubljana in 2015, in the category of best white wine, followed by a silver medal for Teran 2010 at the IWC (International Wine Challenge) in London 2015, a silver medal for Malvazija Unica at IWC in London in 2016, and many others.
