Gault&Millau's review 2026
Selected
Sri Lankan cuisine, one of the most aromatic and spicy cuisines in Asia, is present in Zagreb - but still in a milder and adapted version to the Croatian palate. Curry, coconut, cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric... all this is contained in the dishes in the Curry Bowl restaurant, and these typical Sri Lankan spices give a recognizable taste to the ingredients available here. The restaurant, which is located in the touristically attractive Tkalčićeva Street, is run by two brothers from Sri Lanka - Brian and Clement Sarandine - who introduce some new dishes to the menu every season. The basis of the menu is always strir-fry combinations and curry dishes, and of the newer creations, Ceylon jumbo prawns (tiger prawns) stand out in a rich spicy sauce with basmati rice with garlic and garden salad. Although you can choose between three levels of spiciness, even the mildest one is strong enough to make your blood boil and make the summer heat seem just fine. If you want to give a personal touch to spiciness, you can reach for sauces from the Croatian brand Volim spito, which can be found on every table. They also offer several desserts, such as mango pana cotta and pancake with half pani filling made of caramelized coconut and passion fruit sauce. The choice of drinks is not too large, but it is authentic - they pour Sri Lankan beer Lion Beer, serve homemade ginger juice and real Ceylon Earl Grey tea (iced or hot) and make the popular Sri Lankan cocktail from the distilled alcoholic beverage Arrack.
