Gault&Millau's review 2026

With the charm of Spanish tapas bars and a warm Mediterranean style, Capote y Olé is an unmissable place for anyone who loves the flavours of the Iberian Peninsula. As in Barcelona and Madrid, where this type of establishment is located near or in the very “belly of the city”, it is very close to the market and the Rijeka waterfront. Under the name Capote y Olé there is a restaurant and a delicatessen where the locals like to buy the Jamon de Bellota Ibérico ham, the sausages enriched with traditional Spanish spices, the Curado sheep cheese, olive oils and wines, canned fish and seafood ideal for quick tapas. The restaurant on two floors is more spacious. The menu is not extensive, and the focus is on intense flavours, tapas, paella, traditional tortillas, cured meats and seafood specialties. To start you should definitely try the Pata negra ham – hand-cut, with an intense and aromatic flavour, or the patatas bravas, crispy potato cubes with bravas sauce. The menu also includes some typical Spanish dishes such as paella, rabo del toro (bull’s tail with mashed potatoes), black Iberian pig stew with pasta or rice, and a quarter of a Segovian suckling pig (only by previous order). Capote y Olé has an excellent selection of Spanish wines, aperitifs, and other traditional Spanish drinks that enhance the experience of lunch or dinner. A cosy place, good service, and a good price-quality ratio make it a desirable place to go out with friends.
