A legend of Samobor hospitality, Gostionica kod Špilje - located just a few meters from the entrance to the actual Grgos Cave - is a favorite weekend destination for visitors from Zagreb and surrounding areas. The restaurant, run by the Grgos family for decades, is known for its welcoming atmosphere and homemade specialties. Although the menu may appear “standard” at first glance, the dishes coming out of the kitchen are truly exceptional. Highly recommended is their traditional starter - a cold platter featuring homemade cooked ham, Samobor salami, local cheeses, fresh cheese and cream. If visiting in autumn, during mushroom season, be sure to try the creamy porcini soup and grilled porcini mushrooms. Main courses include game dishes, duck with mlinci, and other traditional specialties. However, if you are a fan of a good Zagreb-style schnitzel, this is an excellent place to try it - a tender cut of veal stuffed with homemade cooked ham and cheese. It is difficult to resist their desserts - seasonal fruit strudel, walnut roll, dumplings, or pancakes. All in all, Gostionica kod Špilje rightfully holds the status of one of the best restaurants in the Zagreb area - not only because of its excellent food, good price to quality ratio and warm service, but also due to its exceptionally pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.
