Gault&Millau's review 2026

Perched atop a hill, directly above the Roses outlet, Klet Kozjak rises like a gastronomic fortress. Decorated in a rustic style, full of warmth and a homely atmosphere, it is one of the most popular restaurants in the Zagorje region, attracting guests from as far as fifty kilometres away in Zagreb. Some for a day-long escape from the city, others for a full weekend. Kozjak is a large complex with guest rooms and apartments, and a well-designed children’s playground around the building makes it an ideal destination for a family getaway. The menu features authentic Zagorje cuisine – from fresh cheese and cream, homemade cheeses and cold cuts, to Zagorje štrukli (traditional dough with filling), homemade pasta, hearty meat platters, and dishes of trout and pike-perch. Their midday meals are especially popular, served until noon, where you can enjoy fried pancakes, bean stew with sausage, blood sausages with sautéed potatoes and braised cabbage, as well as many other simple but flavourful dishes that have been prepared in Zagorje region for generations. Kozjak’s special feature is their own wine production, complemented by a wide list featuring bottles from local wineries. The price-to-quality ratio is very good.
