Located right on the coast, where the sea almost touches the terrace, Konoba Bako offers a true experience of Komiža as it once was. It can be reached by a leisurely walk along the coast, and upon entering it is clear that this is a place that lives with and from the sea. The tavern exudes tradition in every corner. The ambiance is warm and authentic, with stone walls and an impressive collection of fishing objects that tell the story of generations of Komiža fishermen, collected over the years by the founder Tonči Borčić Bako. The terrace adds a special charm, ideal for long, relaxed evening meals at sunset. The cuisine is based on the daily catch and traditional recipes, and the dishes are prepared unobtrusively, with great respect for the food. To start, you can taste cold seafood delicacies such as salted anchovies, octopus salad or aromatic smoked fish, which go perfectly with a glass of vugava, the island’s most famous white grape variety. The backbone of the menu are seafood specialties prepared on the grill or on buzara and occasional meat dishes seasoned with olive oil, wine and island spices. You won’t go wrong no matter what you order, but we recommend asking the friendly waiters about the availability of fresh fish and seafood. We rounded off the rich and delicious dinner with a homemade dessert. In addition to local wines, there are some Dalmatian labels, and the offer of other drinks is standard. Konoba Bako is a place that people come to for the quality of the food, but it is also remembered for its atmosphere. In the season it is almost always full and we recommend to make a reservation.
