Gault&Millau's review 2026

A popular island tourist attraction, the House of Rab Cake, located in the old town, is a kind of temple dedicated to this traditional sweet specialty. It is run by the Brna family, who have been in this business for several generations. The craft of Rab Cake began more than 300 years ago in the homes of wealthy Rab patricians, and its main ingredients are almonds, sugar, lemon, eggs, and maraschino. During the 19th century, the cake was made to order in the monasteries of St. Anthony of Padua and St. Andrew and served on the most festive occasions. Today, this unique dessert can be tasted daily at the House of Rab Cake, where visitors can also watch its preparation according to the traditional recipe. In addition to cakes, visitors can purchase other products such as honey, liqueurs, and various delicacies produced on the island of Rab such as assorted cookies, sugared almonds, spicy almonds with garlic, chili, cumin, pepper, ginger, and salt, mustaćoni, baškotini, carob treats, candied orange peel, Mediterraneo biscuits, Rab gingerbread, and more. The House of Rab Cake is an ideal place to learn about the history and tradition of this region, as well as to buy Rab souvenirs. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff is friendly, enhancing the enjoyment of the delicious treats.
