Maki is a restaurant in Gospić that over the years has transformed from a small tavern situated in the region of Lika, into a popular stop for travellers, organized groups, and locals. The large restaurant can accommodate about 300 guests, and there is also a modern motel with 60 rooms within the facility. It is located about 1.5 km from the Zagreb-Split highway and is easy to find. The culinary philosophy has not changed, and the menu is designed to satisfy all palates, both local and foreign. The restaurant cherishes traditional Lika cuisine, and accordingly, here you can taste the famous Lika cheese Škripavac, homemade cured meats and fritters, as well as Lika kalja, a special stew made of lamb and cabbage, the lamb, the cabbage with dried meat and potatoes, and various dishes prepared under a baking bell. In addition, they offer grilled meat and Lika style trout with homemade potatoes, various homemade soups, and seasonal dishes such as sarma (sour cabbage leaves filled with minced meat and rice) or stuffed peppers. We recommend that you ask the waiter for advice on choosing a dish because, although huge, the menu is not very helpful. Luckily, they always have our favourite on offer: the goulash made with the meat of Buša (the Lika autochthonous beef) which we rarely get the chance to eat anywhere else. It tastes fantastic, has a thick sauce, and is rich in meat. If you have any room left after this hearty meal, try their pancakes. The restaurant is often full, on weekdays and weekends, and the atmosphere is lively throughout the day. The prices are reasonable, and the quantity-price-quality ratio is satisfactory. There is always room in the large and free parking lot.
