Chef's Restaurant
Mazzgoon is a small, cosy family restaurant located in the very centre of Split, within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace. The atmosphere is very pleasant and, although it is right next to the street, it offers an intimate feeling with a terrace on a small square full of history. The personnel are very agile and fast, and you won’t wait long for your order. The dishes are adapted to the tourists, but also to the local population, who want to eat some traditional dish such as risotto, shellfish, fish or a good steak. The offer mainly includes local ingredients, Adriatic prawns, octopus, fish, but they also have the Slavonian pork and other types of meat. Mazzgoon makes a homemade bread and focaccia. They have a good selection of wines, and you can get almost all of them by the glass. First we tried the zucchini with ricotta mousse fritters, an interesting vegetarian appetizer. This was followed by a generous portion of a classic risotto with prawns. We also ordered the traditional mussel buzara, with white wine, garlic and parsley. Everything was prepared correctly, but in a usual way. However, from time to time they add a few surprises to the menu, which are very appreciated by the guests.
