Bistro Mornar is located next to Rijeka’s market and the promenade. The large space is decorated in the style of a classic Italian trattoria, with red checkered tablecloths and a huge stone bar, illuminated by cute lamps made from old cooking pans. Eating at the street terrace overlooking the ships is very pleasant. The bistro is a favourite place of the local population because every day offers fresh marenda (brunch) from the Kvarner region. Depending on the season you can taste small fried fish, sarma (sour cabbage leaves filled with minced meat and rice), tripe, stuffed peppers and other traditional dishes. The menu is large enough that you will certainly find something you like, but we suggest that you listen to the recommendation of young and nimble staff, who will present you the dishes of the day. The wine list includes mostly the labels from Kvarner and Istria, but Malvasia - the wine of the house - is very drinkable. They are proud of their traditional large crab recipe, but before that you should have modest but tasteful smoked sardines and smoked tuna prosciutto, as well as homemade pasta with scampi. Although it is very popular among the tourists, Mornar has not lost the charm of the typical local tavern where you feel like part of the family, so take a walk through the market and have a break for a simple, good lunch and glass of wine.
