Restaurant and pizzeria Roko, located on Opatija’s main street, is one of the best-known dining spots in town. The Roko family nurtures a long gastronomic tradition, combining Mediterranean flavors with a modern culinary approach. Both the pizzeria and the restaurant are decorated in a rustic style, with a pleasant and bright interior and a relaxed atmosphere, largely thanks to the friendly and knowledgeable staff. In the restaurant section, a glass-enclosed grill dominates, used for preparing juicy steaks. The menu includes a thoughtful selection of appetizers, soups, and salads, but pizza from the wood-fired oven remains their most popular dish. They offer around twenty types of pizza, with excellent dough and rich toppings, from mozzarella, ham, bresaola, and Slavonian kulen to smoked cheese and seafood. Pizza Valium, named after scientist Leo Sternbach who was born in the house where the restaurant now stands, is topped with shrimp, salmon, and mozzarella, while Pizza Quarnero features tomatoes, shrimp, arugula, cherry tomatoes, and garlic. Roko also serves excellent pasta, including various handmade tagliatelle, penne, ravioli, orecchiette, and gnocchi with diverse sauces. The menu also includes risottos, fish and meat dishes with sides, and wok dishes. For dessert, there is tiramisu or panna cotta with honey and Istrian truffles. Pizzeria Roko offers a good balance of price and quality.
