Gault&Millau's review 2026

In the Samobor region, it is almost impossible to get a table without a prior reservation, especially in the strict center of Samobor. Samoborska Klet is located in the pedestrian zone, in a passageway off King Tomislav Square, and has been popular among visitors from Zagreb for years, particularly for weekend family lunches. The drive from the capital to this picturesque town takes only about twenty minutes, yet you feel as though you have arrived somewhere completely different. The offer is traditional and focused mainly on meat dishes prepared on the grill, under the bell (peka), or on the spit, along with several classics such as venison stew with homemade gnocchi. The dessert lovers can enjoy recognizable Samobor desserts, primarily kremšnita (custard slice) and žličnjaci (floating meringue dumplings), which are almost a trademark of the town. The wine list is dominated by local labels, both bottled and served by the glass, often enjoyed as a traditional gemišt (white wine mixed with sparkling mineral water). The rustic interior and spacious terrace make the restaurant suitable for larger groups and family celebrations. Food service can take a bit longer, but the overall impression remains pleasant thanks to the warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Prices range from moderate to higher.
