Not far from the old town lies a magical courtyard full of flowers and greenery. On sunny days, it’s a delight to sit here even with just a glass of wine, knowing that beneath you lies an 18th-century wine cellar. The restaurant, with brick walls and solid wooden furniture, is housed in a former winery and is known for traditional dishes from the Srijem region. It serves food literally from morning to evening, offering a rich Ilok-style breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages, and bacon, while for lunch and dinner you can enjoy smoked carp, veal tenderloin in a graševina wine sauce, venison goulash, or Ilok-style grilled dishes featuring chicken, pork neck and sausages. Fish specialties are also available, such as fiš-paprikaš (fish stew), served in a traditional cauldron. This dish can be accompanied by homemade trganci (dumplings) or warm lángos, which help mellow the richness of the sauce. The menu is complemented by an extensive selection of wines from the Ilok cellars, including the royal traminac, which was served at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation and at the weddings of her grandsons, Princes William and Harry. After a “royal” meal, a sip of this distinguished wine is a fitting finale – no dessert needed.
