Gault&Millau's review 2026

Located right on the town square, Velo Kafe welcomes the guests both in winter and summer. The café on the ground floor is a favourite meeting spot for locals and visitors alike, while the restaurant upstairs offers a cosy atmosphere and a beautiful terrace view over the lively square. Parking can be limited due to the central location, especially in summer. However, a short five-minute walk from a nearby large parking lot brings you to one of the inviting terraces. The café serves fresh pastries, while the restaurant offers a rich selection of fish and meat dishes prepared with local ingredients – fresh fish, olive oil, and truffles. Many specialties are seasonal or based on the daily catch. Highlights include crab tagliatelle and monkfish risotto, which we had the pleasure to try. For lovers of the traditional cold seafood dishes, there is the Kvarner octopus salad, the creamy white cod, the anchovies on salad, and a special treat – the tuna prosciutto. Among the desserts, the flambéed Labin krafi (doughnuts) stand out – a traditional pastry that here it is worth trying for their authentic taste and aroma. For a reasonable price, you will enjoy a pleasant sitting and a good quality food.
