“Without big words, colourful labels and flashy advertisements, it is just our life - a sincere dedication to creating good wines”. This is how the Matković family from Orahovica explains their love for wines, and how the name of their winery (Honest wines Matković) came out. On six hectares of vineyards in the best locations, they grow Blue Frankish, Graševina, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Josip Matković planted the first Blue Frankish vines in 2005 on the slopes of Papuk hill. At first, he did not have great ambitions, but when his son Ivan, who graduated from the Faculty of Fruit Growing, Viticulture and Oenology, got involved in the business, the concept of honest wines for the wider market was created. They did not succumb to commercialization, but remained consistent with their own style both in the vineyard and in the cellar. They do not rush the harvest, wait for the grapes to reach full ripeness and create respectable and award-winning wines that mature for up to three years before bottling them. The specificity of the winery is that all their wine lines have labels with unusual messages, for which they received important design awards.
