Anton Katunar’s family winery in Vrbnik, on the island of Krk, has a long tradition of viticulture, but it began to develop more intensively in the early 1990s, when they started to merge the traditional methods with modern technology. Today, they cultivate more than 200,000 vines in the Vrbničko polje (Vrbnik field) and the Baška valley, with a focus on the indigenous variety Žlahtina. This is their most famous wine. The Žlahtina Sv. Lucija is especially highly regarded. Their orange wine Imolata has won numerous awards, Porin is one of the first Croatian sparkling wines, and Maestral represents a more modern white wine style. They are considered innovators - being the first in Croatia to produce frizzante wine (Biser Mora) and amphora wines and to cultivate the northernmost vines of Plavac Mali in Croatia, winning over 100 national and international awards.
