From his first Malvazija made in a friend’s tavern, it took Darko Mandić nearly two decades to establish his own winery. After years of refining his knowledge and production, he founded the brand Vina Mandić in 2023. His approach emphasizes quality over quantity, with wines produced in small batches under controlled fermentation and aging conditions, often in stainless steel tanks. Although the vineyards are located in central Istria (Crklada, Vižinada), the wines retain a Kvarner identity and Mediterranean freshness. As the only active winemaker based in Opatija, Mandić offers Malvazija, Yellow Muscat, rosé (Cabernet Franc), Graševina, and Syrah, as well as special style wines such as sparkling wines and cuvées. He has also opened a tavern in central Opatija where visitors can taste his full range of wines.
