Legend has it that fairies used to play here. Fairy Ružica (Little rose), who especially loved the shade of the wild rose, wrapped in an old but very fruitful vine, tried to prevent a nobleman of the time to build a castle, so he walled her up in the castle walls. But she touched the vines with her magic wand, and the roses she loved so much remained forever part of the landscape. Inspired by the legend, the Orahovica PP (Nature Reserve) still grows roses in its vineyards because they protect the grapes from diseases and pests. The winery, whose wines win prestigious world awards, has 175 hectares of vineyards in ten locations. The stunningly beautiful and diverse landscape is located on the edge of the Papuk Nature Park, part of the UNESCO Geoparks family. Their vineyards primarily grow Silvaner, one of the oldest varieties in the world, Graševina, Blau Frankish, Pinot Gris, Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wines are produced in a state-of-the-art winery under strictly controlled conditions. In the barrels made of old Slavonian oak, in the old cellar from 1894, they store only the Blue Frankish. Martin Albus, on the other hand, is a line of modern, young and award-winning wines. The name comes from the two vineyard locations – Martin and Albus.
