Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
Young, ambitious, and innovative, Kapić Winery represents a new wave of Kvarner winemaking. The owner Toni Babić launched the business in 2022 practically from scratch, without a long family tradition in winemaking. This is a micro (even nano) production, meaning small quantities with a strong focus on quality and authenticity. Grapes come from various locations, mainly Vrsar area in Istria, while the cellar and the tasting room are located in central Matulji. The production emphasizes the modern oenology while drawing on the traditions of Liburnia and the Kastav region. The wines bear names in the local Chakavian dialect - Težak, Paron, Jacera, Devica, and Kastavska Belica – highlighting the local identity. They offer white varieties such as Malvazija Istriana, Chardonnay, and Muscat Blanc, as well as red blends featuring Merlot, Teran, and Refosco.
