L'avis de Gault&Millau
Orca is one of the favourite restaurants of the local population, but it has also been recognized by many tourists who return regularly for the good homemade food and the warm, family atmosphere of the place. Located on the Rovinj outskirts, on the main road, the restaurant has a spacious terrace, and the interior is large and traditionally decorated. It is open all year round, which is an additional advantage compared to most of Rovinj’s restaurants that operate seasonally. We started our lunch in Orca with a plate of Istrian homemade prosciutto, with an exceptional aroma and taste. Given the season, we enjoyed the cleaned delicious crab meat, seasoned with olive oil and a few drops of lemon. The grilled Saint Jacques scallops were fesh and juicy. The freshness of the food is one of the main trump cards of Orca. After a delicious appetizer, we tasted fuži (a local sort of pasta) with venison, a rich dish with a pronounced taste that can certainly be a piatto unico, a complete meal. We expected a little more from the fish that was grilled a couple of minutes more than necessary and lost on juiciness. But we must underline that a young professional waiter cleaned the fish perfectly. At the end of the lunch we chose a dessert that used to be the most popular in the whole region, but in recent years has disappeared, with no reason, from most Croatian restaurants menus - the palačinke (pancakes) filled with marmelade. And it was an excellent choice. They were thin and perfectly baked and brought us back to the taste of childhood.
