L'avis de Gault&Millau
Vinodol, one of the most popular and largest restaurants in the city center, has a courtyard terrace and a slightly smaller outdoor terrace, on a street with limited traffic. Both were filled as soon as the restaurants were allowed to work on terraces, to the extent that it was impossible to get a table on Saturdays and Sundays if you had not booked much earlier. In Vinodol they have a daily offer, and the menu changes every week. Of course, they also have their regular dishes, including the beef tartare, that we chose to start our lunch. The well spiced raw meat, served with toasted bread and butter, is one of their classics and it’s always good. Then we tasted one excellent, simple dish that delighted us: breaded anchovies on a potato salad with red onion and arugula. A real Mediterranean dish, which can rarely be found in restaurants, but once used to be very often on the table of Dalmatian houses. Along with the crispy anchovies, they also served a little tartare sauce. For the main meat dish we chose tournedos with asparagus and potatoes au gratin. The flesh of the tournedos was juicy and soft. Served with green asparagus in a delicate hollandaise sauce and a potato cake au gratin, the dish was beautifully presented, appealing and delicious. We ended the lunch with two desserts: a cheese cake with raspberry and a Mocha caramel, a creamy coffee cake made with mascarpone. Both were to lick fingers. The pleasant atmosphere, the varied menu, the rich offer of wines by the glass, the excellent service, the nice presentation of the dishes and above all the good food are the main features of Vinodol. This is a restaurant to which we are always happy to return, and we warmly recommend it, noting that on weekends you must book a table much in advance.
