Distillery “Only a fool would make juices and jams from plums,” joked Drago Šurina to his son-in-law Dinko Romić, who had grown tired of selling fruit at low prices and wanted to start producing juices, cider, and fruit vinegars. Instead, the two of them turned to producing brandies under the brand JEDNA (meaning - The One) from Williams pears, apples, and sour cherries grown in their orchard near the Drava River in Nemetin. The first award came in 2019, and in 2023 their gin Little Gipsy, named after a local cherry variety, won gold at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London. Dinko Romić and Drago Šurina produce their brandies from the finest fruit using traditional methods in copper stills with double distillation. Afterward, the spirits are aged for another 12 months in stainless steel tanks or barrique oak barrels, and then bottled in award-winning packaging. Their distillery produces 20,000 liters of brandy and 10,000 liters of gin annually, using fruit from their own 12 hectares and from other family farms. Constantly experiment with flavours, they revive nearly forgotten varieties such as the Valpovka plum. Their brandies are served in top Croatian restaurants, while their gin is gaining international recognition.
