Delicatessen Slađan Novosel, from a small Slavonian village near the Drava and Karašica rivers, is one of the region’s most decorated kulen producers, with over 200 awards to his name. Following a family recipe more than fifty years old, using the best cuts of meat, adding Baranja and Hungarian paprika, he oversees the entire process - from field to table. Raising Landrace and Yorkshire pigs on his own farms and producing most of their feed on 70 hectares of land, his range includes kulen, sausages, bacon, and other cured meats, all available directly from the farm or delivered across Croatia and the EU. He advocates gradual fattening so that pigs reach an optimal weight of around 170 kilograms in ten to eleven months. His wife, son, and daughter help in the business, and a major boost came from a modern facility for producing cured meats built about a decade ago. After nearly two decades in production, he is convinced that anything done with passion pays off.
